A CRAFT lab Workshop: Fun for everyone!

Celebrated on the Spring Equinox (March 20th) to mark the rebirth of the Earth, the ancient holiday of Nowruz welcomes in the New Year in Iran and other countries in the Middle East and Central Asia. Learn more about this joyous day and create symbols of rebirth, love, and good health.

Celebrate the New Year (Persian Style) at today’s Nowruz activities at the Craft and Folk Art Museum in Los Angeles! Make cool stuff and explore the museum’s galleries, meet new people, and enjoy a festive day of awesome dating back over 3,000 years! That’s right, today is a CraftLab Workshop: Fun for everyone!

Celebrated on the Spring Equinox (March 20th) to mark the rebirth of the Earth, Nowruz welcomes in the New Year in Iran and other countries in the Middle East and Central Asia. Join artist Marjan Vayghan to learn more about this ancient holiday and create art projects inspired by the Haft Seen, the traditional Nowruz table spread. We bet you’ll get to learn about all the cool stuff they put on tabels, and greetings, and everything.  Stuff like:

  1. 1Sumac (crushed spice of berries): For the sunrise and the spice of life
  2. 2Senjed (sweet dry fruit of the lotus tree): For love and affection
  3. 3Serkeh (vinegar): For patience and age
  4. 4Seeb (apples): For health and beauty
  5. 5Sir (garlic): For good health
  6. 6Samanu (wheat pudding): For fertility and the sweetness of life
  7. 7Sabzeh (sprouted wheat grass): For rebirth and renewal of nature
